Drama Queen

I just finished up a new post about our recent trip to Uganda and it happens to be about our visit with Hilda, our sponsor orphan. I love to look at her photos now that I am home. And I know that if I love it, then I cannot imagine how our friends who are going through the process of adopting from this same orphanage feel when they look at photos knowing they are bringing little girls home to forever families soon.

When we got to Uganda, we asked about Hilda, wanting to know more about what she was like. We were told that she was super sweet, but also dramatic. Gr-eat. A drama queen. The Scott household doesn't "do drama". Little did we know that we'd get to see this for ourselves. We were told that when she wants a sweetie and is told "no", that she turns on her tears and then someone else will give her what she wants. Awesome. So, when we arrived and everyone began taking out their gifts for their sponsor kids right away, of course Hilda turned on the tears because we hadn't given her the gifts we brought yet! Of course she was super sad. And of course we felt like awful people. I just didn't want to bombard her because she had latched on to some other members of the team. So, when one of the aunties asked her what was wrong, we pulled her aside and handed her the new toys. She didn't seemed impressed at first, but she finally came around and then never left my side. I was okay with that.

She is a sweet girl. She shares well. She has an infectious laugh. She giggled hard when I tickled her. She likes to play with play-dough and she'll ham it up in front of the camera. She taught me a hand clapping game in her language. And those cheeks! Oh, her cheeks are so chubby. What a sweet little thing. Dramatic, yes. Sweet, definitely.
